University of California, San Francisco
The Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND) and UCSF seek candidates for faculty positions who are focused on molecular and biophysical approaches to understand neurodegeneration and advance the development of therapeutics that target Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias. An interdisciplinary research program integrating advanced methods such as cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), tomography (cryo-ET), light microscopy, and single molecule techniques is of particular interest. The IND and UCSF recognize the critical importance of diversity in developing a successful research program; we strongly encourage applications from women and underrepresented groups and are thoroughly committed to providing the necessary resources and support for advancing career goals.
The successful candidates will have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a relevant discipline with an exceptional track record in research and mentoring. They will develop an independent research program and be a part of a world-class team of researchers at the IND focused on understanding and developing cures for neurodegenerative disease. Successful candidates will work collaboratively with expert faculty across the UCSF campus and greater Bay Area and have access to state-of-the-art IND and UCSF resources including a dedicated cryo-EM facility (with a Krios G4 and Hydra plasma FIB SEM to be installed in 2023-2024). Both junior-level and established scientists are encouraged to apply. Once identified by the IND, the successful candidate(s) will join a suitable academic home department (e.g., Neurology) as a faculty member based on the candidate's area of research specialization.
The IND prides itself on being a stimulating, collaborative environment of interdisciplinary groups with regular research-in-progress seminars and social events, as well as a postdoc program, and striving to be a leader in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The expected appointments are In-Residence* track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level (assignment commensurate with background, experience, and work history). The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in Graduate Training Programs, including Neuroscience, the Tetrad umbrella program, the Program in Biological Sciences, the Quantitative Biosciences Consortium, and other graduate training programs. The individual will be a member of the IND and be involved in additional department-specific activities such as graduate student teaching. Exceptional laboratory space and resources will be available in the Sandler Neurosciences Center on UCSF's vibrant Mission Bay campus.
