Research Assistant Professor- Neural & Behavioral Sciences

A full-time Assistant Professor position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kirsteen Browning in the Neural and Behavioral Sciences Department, at the Penn State College of Medicine, in Hershey PA. The work in the laboratory is focused on projects related to brainstem control of autonomic, particularly gastrointestinal, functions.

The principal roles of this job will be designing and conducting experiments, analyze data, and will be involved in preparation of manuscripts for publication. They will be responsible for keeping a record of their activity and data according to the data policy of the lab and institution.

Candidates must be willing to learn new techniques and be responsible, self-motivated, a good communicator, and possess strong organizational skills Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Excel and Office) are required. Candidates will be expected to contribute to the development and design of research projects under the direction of faculty. Successful candidates for this position are required to have a PhD in preferable fields of physiology or neuroscience and demonstrated experience in electrophysiological recordings in ex vivo slice preparations, stereotaxic surgery, and microinjection techniques in rodents, and optogenetic and/or chemogenetic manipulation of neurocircuits.
