The Valley Water Dam Safety Program and Capital unit is currently involved in the delivery of multi-million-dollar dam seismic retrofit projects and responsible for the operations and maintenance of Valley Water dams. The position will primarily support associate and senior staff in the delivery of the unit's obligations. In addition, the position will be involved in tasks related to construction activities for the Anderson Dam Tunnel Project (ADTP); design of the Anderson Dam Seismic Retrofit Project (ADSRP) and other dam seismic retrofit projects; surveillance, monitoring, and inspection of VW dams; preparation of surveillance reports; updates to the technical contents of the dam Emergency Action Plans; and preparation of Dam Maintenance.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide technical support for the Dam Seismic Retrofit Project.
- Support collection and analysis of dam safety data and support preparation of dam surveillance/monitoring reports.
- Update technical contents of dam emergency action plans (EAP)s, organize table-top/functional exercises & annual EAP drills, and support preparation of Dam Maintenance Program environmental impact report (EIR) revisions.
Ideal Experience:
- Two (2) years of professional engineering experience.
- Experience working with team members and using collaboration and negotiation skills to successfully accomplish a project.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting plans.
- Academic or professional project experience in land use planning and development.
- Internship experience at a public agency or private land development firm desirable.
- Familiarity with GIS and HEC-RAS desirable.
- Strong analytical, technical, and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to work with data and manage software tools, forms, standards, and procedures.
- Ability to set priorities to manage one's own daily work and be flexible to easily adjusts to changing conditions and job functions.
- Works well with people and demonstrates leadership and initiative.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with multiple disciplines, good team player, positive attitude, and energy.
- Strong writing skills that are clear, concise, and accurate.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Flexible - easily adjusts to changing conditions and job functions.
- Skilled in database management and working with Microsoft Office.
- Principles, practices, concepts, and standards of engineering as applied to assigned field/specialty of engineering.
- Practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting effective and technical reports.
- Principles, practices, concepts, and standards of water resources management, natural resource management, engineering, hydrogeology, geology, hydrology, hydraulics, and/or environmental sciences.
- Knowledge of stream functions including habitat protection/restoration/enhancement, bank erosion, hydromodification, water quality, geomorphology, and floodplains.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a field related to assigned functional area(s).
OR
Possession of a valid California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate with two (2) years of associated paraprofessional engineering experience.
Required License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license. Individuals who do not meet the driver's license requirement due to a disability will be considered for a reasonable accommodation on a case-by-case basis.

Dam Safety Program & Project Delivery Unit (Position Code 761)
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.
This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.
