  • Position Number: 5669152
  • Location: Lancaster, PA
  • Position Type: Science - Computer Science

Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Computer Science beginning August 2025. The rank will be Assistant Professor or Instructor depending on qualifications. Applicants should possess or be close to completing a doctorate in Computer Science or a related field. We seek candidates who can teach a variety of courses in an undergraduate computer science curriculum. In addition to the primary role of teaching, faculty at F&M are expected to maintain an active research program in a computer science sub-field. We are especially interested in those specializing in fields such as programming languages (PL), compilers, software engineering, cybersecurity, graphics, data processing, or databases. Candidates who engage undergraduates in research are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates are also expected to contribute to the College's shared governance.

New faculty receive competitive start-up funds to establish their research programs, as well as space and support. F&M maintains a competitive research computing environment among liberal arts colleges.

Candidates must submit the following items electronically via Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/153132: a cover letter; curriculum vitae; graduate transcript(s) (unofficial copies are fine); a teaching statement that holistically considers inclusive excellence in teaching and student success; a research statement; teaching evaluations and/or observations; and one list of three reference names (NOTE: three letters of reference will be solicited at a later stage, and once they are requested, referees will need to supply them via Interfolio within two weeks). Candidates who incorporate themes of community, belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion in their application materials are preferred. For full consideration, applications should be received by October 25th, although the position will remain open until filled.

Pursuant to cultivating an inclusive college community, the search committee will holistically assess the qualifications of each applicant. We will consider an individual's record working with students and colleagues with diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. We will also consider experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers to academic success.

Candidates will be primarily evaluated on a variety of criteria including evidence of teaching experience or interest, the candidate's ability to teach existing courses in computer science, and their ability to develop and teach new courses related to their areas of research that address and expand curricular needs in computer science. Candidates should show a positive trajectory of their active research program and articulate how it can be adapted to the F&M environment. Candidates should have strong computer science knowledge and should be able to demonstrate their experience overcoming/helping others overcome barriers to academic success. Finally, candidates should be interested in working with students and colleagues of diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds with a strong interest in liberal arts education.
