Northeastern University Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowships Program is a two-year experiential program designed to advance lifelong learning and the education and training of Pharm.D. graduates. Critical to the success of the program is our ability to prepare Fellows to meet the ongoing workforce needs in various areas of industry.

Our program gives fellows an opportunity to work with our innovative biopharmaceutical industry partners while collaborating with Northeastern University faculty in professional and career development, service, scholarship, and teaching.

In partnership with Northeastern University, Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A, Inc. is offering a two-year Clinical Sciences PharmD/PhD fellowship based in Cambridge, MA.

Takeda US Medical Clinical Sciences Fellowship:

The US Medical Clinical Research group is part of US Medical Value and Evidence Generation within US Medical. US Medical Value and Evidence Generation develops and communicates data to provide patients access to our medicines, advance clinical decision making, and provide healthcare solutions which transform patient care. In US Medical, Clinical Research, Clinical Science, Engagement and Innovation develops, drives and delivers patient-centered clinical and collaborative research in partnership with the US Medical product medical teams for marketed products in Gastroenterology, Rare Disease, Plasma Derived Therapies and Neuroscience. Clinical sciences partners on strategic discussions, evidence generation plan development, study design development, KOL engagement, study oversight and publication planning/scientific exchange. Clinical Sciences in Takeda US Medical is responsible for strategic input, and scientific direction for US Medical research plans across therapeutic areas and partners with the Clinical Research leads, in partnership with HEOR and medical leads participates in the clinical gap evaluation and development of the strategic plans for the product medical units. The two-year Takeda US Medical Clinical Science Fellowship Program is designed to prepare post-doctoral scholars for rewarding careers in the biopharmaceutical industry. Fellows will learn the day-to-day role of Clinical Sciences on US Medical cross-functional teams by leading and contributing to the design, implementation, monitoring, analysis and reporting of clinical studies. The overarching program goal is to empower Fellows to be high achieving clinical research leaders that support transformational medicines for patients.

In year one, fellows will learn the role of Clinical Science in US Medical Affairs, while developing skills in study development, execution and the analysis, interpretation, and communication of clinical data while expanding their competencies in managing complex projects and multidisciplinary teams. Fellows will have experiences across various ongoing projects in US Medical Clinical Research, Clinical Sciences and will be working across therapeutic areas. Fellows will also have a 3-month rotational experience with Clinical Sciences within Research and Development (R&D) to gain familiarity with programs from Phase 1 to Phase 3 clinical trials. Fellows may also opt to elect a 3-month rotational experiences in another functional area of interest. The integrative Clinical Sciences experience allows fellows to gain exposure while supporting typical daily workflows and potentially leading high impact projects. In year two, the fellow will be fully immersed in one or more Clinical Research project(s) in the Clinical Sciences team, along with the opportunity to work autonomously as a Clinical Scientist.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Input into scientific gap analysis and creation of research plans
  • Leading internal multidisciplinary teams to drive critical research program and study design decisions
  • Development of study design concept, preparation/approval of cross functional study synopses, protocols, other study materials and the conduct of clinical studies
  • Interpretation of clinical studies and result presentation cross-functionally. May also participate in scientific presentation, external communications and publications.
  • Provide clinical development knowledge across US Medical
  • Attend conferences and engage the scientific community
  • Collaboration with Clinical Research, Research Process Excellence, Medical Directors, Statistics, Regulatory, and other cross-functional teams
  • Participate in Statistical analysis plans development, data base build, CRF development and data listing reviewing, including both safety and efficacy variables.
  • Engage with external partners such as Clinical Research Organizations (CROs) and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs)


The fellowship program goal is to provide fellows with competitive skillsets for Clinical Science and Medical Affairs positions and embolden fellows to be high achieving clinical leaders in their career.

Qualifications:

Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited institution, eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Massachusetts Or Doctor of Philosophy degree in a biological or physical science.

Excellent oral and written communication, time management, and leadership skills, ability to work independently and take initiative on a variety of projects at the industry site and Northeastern.
