As a workplace, we're committed to creating an environment for you to thrive both personally and professionally.

The Team
Global Health

The Gates Foundation Global Health division harnesses advances in science and technology to save lives in poor countries. We focus on the health problems that have a major impact in developing countries but get too little attention and funding. Where shown tools exist, we support sustainable ways to improve their delivery. Where they don't, we invest in research and development of new interventions, such as vaccines, drugs, biologics, and diagnostics. Our work in infectious diseases focuses on strategies to fight and prevent HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, neglected tropical diseases, enteric and diarrheal diseases and pneumonia. These strategies are supported by functional teams that focus on Discovery & Translational Sciences, Vaccine Development & Surveillance, Integrated Development (IDev), and Innovation Introduction.

Integrated Development

The Integrated Development (IDev) team is a cross-functional team that supports Foundation Program Strategy Teams (PSTs) by providing technical expertise in the following areas: Quantitative Sciences (QuantSci), Regulatory Affairs (RA), Design, Analyze, Communicate (DAC), Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC). IDev plays a critical role in advancing the foundations portfolio of products and building up the broader global health ecosystem.

Your Role
The Gates Foundation seeks a Senior Program Officer (SPO) in Pharmacometrics to join the Quantitative Sciences (QuantSci) team within the Integrated Development (IDev) Group. You will lead global initiatives to develop and apply advanced pharmacometric methods—including AI-driven modeling and simulation—to optimize drug development for diverse populations, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). By advancing Model Informed Drug Development (MIDD), you will enhance drug efficacy, streamline clinical trials, and accelerate access to new therapies. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring that these innovative treatments reach those who need them most, addressing unique health challenges with efficiency and impact. Collaborating with leading experts, you'll drive solutions that make a tangible difference in global health.

What You'll Do
  • Strategic Leadership: Define the strategic vision for pharmacometrics, aligning with global health objectives, and lead initiatives integrating pharmacometric approaches into MIDD programs for LMICs.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) Management: Foster and oversee a diverse network of SMEs, coordinating their contributions to Foundation-led projects and managing associated contracts to drive the success of these initiatives.
  • Grant Making and Management: Oversee a portfolio of grants by identifying funding opportunities, crafting proposals, establishing success metrics, and ensuring initiatives deliver measurable and sustainable health improvements.
  • Driver of Innovation: Lead the adoption of emerging trends and technologies in pharmacometrics—including AI/ML applications—and promote open-source tools to accelerate drug development and research, particularly in LMICs.
  • Partnership Building: Forge and maintain robust relationships with global health partners, including international health agencies, non-profits, academic institutions, and private sector entities.
  • Consultation and Support: Provide critical consultation and thought partnership to Foundation partners and external collaborators to advance drug development initiatives, ensuring successful implementation of grants and technical innovations.
  • Communication and Advocacy: Represent the Foundation at scientific and policy forums, advocating for the integration of pharmacometrics in global health strategies and engaging stakeholders to communicate its value.

    Your Experience
  • Advanced degree (Master's, PhD, PharmD, MD) in pharmacometrics, pharmaceutical sciences, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry or related field, focusing on the application of pharmacometrics and/or systems pharmacology to drug development.
  • Technical MIDD and Quantitative Background: Significant experience applying pharmacometric analyses to inform decision-making in drug development, particularly in LMICs.
  • Regulatory Expertise in Pharmacometrics: Proven experience collaborating with regulatory bodies on pharmacometric analyses in submissions, using modeling to support regulatory decisions.
  • Leadership Excellence: Extensive leadership experience in quantitative analysis supporting medical product development, with a proven ability to build and inspire collaborative relationships.
  • Communication and Advocacy: Exceptional ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences, build consensus, and drive strategic decisions with senior stakeholders across sectors.

    Other Attributes

  • Open-Source and AI Experience: Experience contributing to open-source projects and familiarity with AI/ML technologies is highly desirable.
