JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
In support of the design, testing, and characterization of integrated photonics equipment for the AIM Photonics Worcester Lab for Education and Application Prototypes (LEAP) facility. This will include photonics, optics, electrical, and microwave functional testing of photonic and electrical chips and tiles.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:
  • In coordination with faculty and partners, selects, assembles, fabricates, sets up, trouble shoots and operates laboratory equipment, instruments, components, etc., for the training and research activities for the integrated photonics LEAP facility
  • Develops testing procedures and documentation for characterizing passive and active integrated photonic devices including hardware and software
  • Independently runs and manages photonic integrated test equipment for externally funded projects and customers including developing and implementing test plans to meet project deliverables
  • Collects, interprets, analyzes, and presents photonic integrated circuit data including insertion loss, free spectral range, propagation loss, bend loss, trench loss.
  • Prepares reports and presentations for sponsors and partners
  • Experience with software tools including Klayout, Synopsys, Lumerical, etc. is beneficial
  • Experience with Python and Matlab, or other data analysis tools, for testing hardware automation tools and data characterization
  • Trains and mentors undergraduate and graduate students on the set up and operation of instruments and data analysis techniques
  • Actively participates in advising and directly assisting undergraduate capstone research projects including major qualifying projects (MQPs)
  • Engages and supports outreach activities related to educational and career pathways
  • Occasional travel to domestic partners and collaborators to support project deliverables
  • Independently performs literature searches on current state-of-the-art integrated photonics materials, components, devices and platforms
  • Interest in contributing to publication and grant funding opportunities


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM field with integrated photonics testing and simulation experience.
  • 3 years of relevant experience.
